Elector-Test & Maintenance can provide high resolution SF6 gas detection utilizing FLIR Systems GF306 infrared gas detection camera.
This technology allows for precision SF6 gas leak detection of gas insulated equipment. This IR imager is tuned to a narrow wavelength of 10.3 – 10.7 um, in which when SF6 gas is detected, it will appear as “smoke”. The operating temperature range of this imager is -20C to +40C, (-4F to +104F). Video and still images can be captured for reporting.
Conventional SF6 leak detection using “sniffers” can be difficult, at times impossible depending on leak rates and ambient conditions, plus equipment may have to be offline. Our system is equipped with a telephoto lens allowing for better detection on HV equipment while energized, thus allowing for parts procurement before equipment is removed from service.
SF6 gas is the most potent greenhouse gas in existence. It has a global warming potential 23,900 times greater than carbon dioxide when compared over a 100-year period. It has an atmospheric lifetime of 800-3200 years. Many companies have adopted policies to audit gas inventories so even minor leaks have become a priority.
